How Soon Can I go Back to my Normal Routine After Plastic Surgery?

March 5, 2024

The first thing that comes to the minds of the patients of plastic surgery is how soon they will be back to their normal routine. Recovery takes time but one doesn't want to compromise their work and routine activities either. Well, the complexity of your surgery, the type of surgery, and the duration length for the surgery help to determine how soon you can resume your daily activities. While you may feel that you are energetic enough to go back to your work, you must follow the timelines.

A general timeline

The recovery after plastic surgery varies depending upon the type of surgery you underwent. Some people take very less to recover while others may take a longer time for the same. If you are following the instructions from your surgeon very well, you can expect to get back sooner. Generally, any surgeon suggests resting for a minimum of 7- 14 days after the surgery. After a week of rest, if you are feeling well, you may obtain approval from your surgeon to continue with your normal routine. The surgeon will thoroughly check your condition to determine if you are at any risk of complications or not.

Performing light activities

Most patients are healthy enough to get back to their normal routine two weeks after the surgery. One may start with light physical activity that does not put much strain on your body. Your surgeon may allow you to walk a little or perform light exercises but not any kind of strenuous activity. However, you must take care not to put any stress on the incision sites to allow healing of those areas. If not, it may cause infection, large scars, or bleeding. Your surgeon may also allow you to drive if the wound has healed.

Moderate or heavy activities

No matter the type of plastic surgery you underwent, you will recover sufficiently enough to perform moderate exercise. Your surgeon still won't allow you to perform heavy-lifting activities after 4 weeks. Once you fully recover from the surgery after 6-8 weeks, you may be allowed to perform strenuous activity. When you feel fit, you can follow up with your doctor to know if you perform any kind of activity.
